Henri Vieuxtemps (1820–1881) was a Belgian violinist and composer.
He wrote Souvenir d’Amérique in 1843, during his first concert tour in the United States. This humorous set of variations, based on the melody of the well known pre-Revolutionary war folk song “Yankee Doodle”, became an instant audience favorite.
